Zero in on your personal style...
Learn how to impress an art director...
The illustrators' road to publication leads to art directors. Along with editors, they are the ones who say YES! and make our dreams come true...... or don't. They are the ones who make our finished book look classy, our jackets arresting, our text read unobtrusively.....or don't.
This June 24th, our Illustrators' Intensive guest speaker is Lucy Ruth Cummins, Associate Art Director at Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers, publisher of a wide range of children's books - 95 titles last year. Lucy will step us through the bookmaking process, show us successful design, and give us her insider course in marketing our art. (Presented at the SCBWI Midwinter in NYC, Jan., 2011.)
This is the rare full-day setting for Florida illustrators to discuss their portfolio and promo pieces with a New York art director who is eager to help them improve their work. As a bonus, Lucy has agreed to evaluate book dummies mailed to her by members of the group during the month after the intensive.
Artist Priscilla Burris will be doing a hands-on demo of picture book character development. She will share studio tips and creative and career advice "gleaned in the trenches." Together, she and Lucy will answer all your questions.

Participants must register/pay for the Saturday Mid-Year Workshops as well as the separate fee in order to attend.
